Cork's former World Indoor Hurdles champion, Derval O'Rourke will be a leading attraction at the the 58th.Cork City Sports on July 4.
Former winner Sarah Claxton (England) will provide stern opposition to the Douglas star who demonstated her current excellent form with a clear victory in the European Team Chamionships in Slovakia last weekend. With the 2008 hurdles winner in Cork Andrea Bliss from Jamaica, Jenny Adams and April Garner (USA) and Fanny Juhasz (Hungary) also in the lineup it is possible that this could be the fastest hurdles race ever seen in the country.
On top of his recent emphatic victory at the recent "Golden Spike" Grand Prix in Ostrava over 200m where he defeated a class international field Athenry's Olympic semi-finalist, Paul Hession, looks set to record a sprint double despite the presence of overseas opponents, Ainsley Waugh and Chris Williams from Jamaica. Brendan Christian (Antigua), Kiril Kirolov (Bulgaria) and the quick American Jermaine McQueen.
Jamie Nieto and Dusty Jones (USA) will renew their much publishised battle to sort out who is the best American high jumper at present. Nieto broke the Cork City Sports meeting record last year by clearing 2.30m but with top Europeans Grzegorz Sposob (Poland) and Martijn Nuijens (Holland) also in action new heights could be scaled this year.
