Some of the world's leading sprinters head for this weekend's Cork City Sports at the Mardyke on foot of fast times in the past few days.
Brendan Christian (Antiqua) a Golden League winner in Oslo twelve months ago has opted to bypass the upcoming Bislett Games to return to Cork and challenge Ireland's outstanding Paul Hession over the 100m and 200m distances. Christian posted a nifty 10.09 sec. in winning the shorter sprint at Nivelles (Belgium) last Friday and is in prime shape to take on the Irish record holder who will be seeking a unique repeat sprint double in Cork.
In the women's 100m the brilliant Ivet Lalova from Bulgaria who has run 10.77sec. is a late inclusion to the short sprint which will also include Kelly Proper and Niamh Whelan from Ferrybank and the British Olympians Montell Douglas and Abi Oyepitan.
