JUMPING TO NEW HEIGHTS IN CORK
American Jamie Nieto who jumped 2.30m. last July to establish a new Meeting record in Cork looks set to go even higher next Saturday afternoon as he is joined by by three other world ranked high jumpers who have also jumped well in excess of 2.30m. Frenchman Mikael Hanany cleared 2.32m in 2008 to win the U.S. Collegiate title. Adam Shunk (USA) and Grzegorz Sposob (Poland) have also jumped this height amd Dutchman Martijn Nuijens recently upped his personal best to 2.29m
 
Irish record holder Adrian O'Dwyer has just returned to competition this season and it will be interesting to see how he fares in this company with the youthful home jumpers, Barry Pender, Chris Crowley and Irish Schools champion Kourish Foroughi also declared starters.
 
In the womens high jump, national champion, Deirdre Ryan, will have two 1.90m. jumpers to contend with, Irina Kovalenko (Ukraine) and Karolina Gronah (Poland). Another Polish jumper Karolina Blazej could be the danger here with Barbara Szabo from Hungary and the British pair of Clements and Partridge also competing. Current Irish Schools champion Cathriona Farrell and Pamela Hughes (Westport) will join Ryan in a very strong field.
