Twenty two year old Cameron Page from Gosford, Australia ran a personal best time of 3mins 54.77 secs to win the Mile at the 62nd Cork City Sports last Tuesday. Page who has Irish qualifications as his mother’s family hail from Quilty, Co Clare and Shanagolden, Co Limerick was one of six athletes who ran faster than ever before over the classic four laps.
Life time bests were recorded by home athletes, Paul Robinson, 3:56.18 , David McCarthy, 3:57.18 and Irish schools champion, Sean Tobin from Clonmel 4:06.66 , who knocked a sensational fourteen seconds off his previous best. Third placed Garrett Heath, 3:55.91 and Portugal’s Emanuel Rolim also ran pb’s.
Seasonal best times were set by U.S. stars, Jordan McNamara, 3:55.76 and Ben Blackenship, 3:56.66 while Kilkenny’s Eoin Everard and Brett Robinson posted 2013 best times.
