The Cork City Sports Athlete Of The Month For May is Leevale Olympian, Louise Shanahan. At the Irish Milers Club event in Belfast, Louise not only broke the magical 2 minute barrier for the first time but she also beat the current Irish record holder Ciara Mageean and her record. In this breakthrough race Louise recorded a time of 1:59.42 which automatically qualifiers her for both the World Championships in Oregon USA and the European Championships in Munich.
Louise has been a rising star in Irish Athletics for some time and this is the 4th occasion that she has received a Cork City Sports Athlete Of The Month Award for outstanding achievement.
Throughout her carrier Louise has fantastic family support, including world class coaching and advice from her dad Ray, an 800m specialist of note himself.
This weekend Louise will defend her national title. On July 5th she is one of the headline athletes at this years Cork City Sports, before she heads off to Oregon for the World Championships.
