Sophie O’Sullivan, a member of Ballymore/Cobh AC, is the recipient of the Cork City Sports Athlete of the Month award for July. On July 16th, Sophie made history by becoming the first-ever Irish athlete to secure a gold medal at the European Under 23 Track and Field championships. This prestigious event took place this year in Espoo, Finland. Displaying her exceptional competitive abilities, Sophie demonstrated her prowess in the final stretch of the race, clinching the 1500m title. Notably, Sophie is the daughter of the renowned Irish athlete Sonia O’Sullivan and the granddaughter of John O’Sullivan, a dedicated and longstanding member of the Cork City Sports committee.
