Athletics was prominent at the 2013 Evening Echo Ladies Sports Star Awards which took place at the Rochestown Park Hotel on Friday 7th February. Four of the twelve sports star awards went to athletes; Phil Healy – Bandon AC, Louise Shanahan & Orla Barry – Leevale AC and Orla Finn Riverstick Kinsale AC, demonstrating the current strength and depth of the sport in the county.
World Champion athlete Derval O’Rourke was the special guest at this years awards and her message to the award winners was to believe in yourself, dream big and set goals.
Incidentally Healy, Shanahan and Barry were also recipients of Athletic Person of the Month awards from Cork City Sports during 2013.
