April Athlete of the Month: Fergal Curtin

Fearghal Curtin of Youghal AC has been named the Cork City Sports Athlete of the Month for April, following two outstanding performances on the roads of Germany that firmly established him among Ireland’s elite endurance athletes.

On April 6th, Fearghal delivered a world-class run at the Berlin Half Marathon, finishing 5th in a field of nearly 20,000 runners. His time of 61 minutes and 12 seconds was just 15 seconds shy of the Irish national record — a remarkable performance that announced his arrival on the international stage.

Just three weeks later, he returned to Germany to take on the Düsseldorf Marathon. There, Fearghal finished 4th overall in a time of 2 hours, 11 minutes, and 35 seconds. That result not only marked a significant personal milestone, but also placed him 10th on the All-Time Irish marathon rankings.

These achievements highlight an exceptional month for the Youghal native and a breakthrough moment in his career. Cork City Sports is proud to recognise Fearghal’s achievements and looks forward to seeing what lies ahead for this rising star of Irish athletics.
