December Athlete of the Month: Elle Kate McRae

Elle Kate McRae (Scoil Mhuire / Midleton AC) has been named Cork City Sports Athlete of the Month for December. following a standout international performance at the Schools Home Nations International Pentathlon in Glasgow.
There are breakthrough performances and then there are results that shift expectations entirely. December belonged to Elle Kate McRae, who produced one of the most impressive Irish schools’ combined-events displays in recent years to earn her recognition as Cork City Sports Athlete of the Month.
Representing Ireland at the Schools Home Nations International Pentathlon in Glasgow, Elle rose superbly to the occasion inside the Emirates Arena. Competing in the Under 18 category, she delivered a composed and consistent series of performances across all five disciplines to secure second place individually against the very best young athletes from England, Scotland and Wales.
Her contribution proved decisive. Ireland claimed a famous team victory, overturning the long-standing dominance of England — a rare outcome in the 32-year history of the competition and a result that highlights just how significant this achievement was.
Even more encouraging is the trajectory of improvement. Elle amassed 3,745 points, a massive 300+ point personal best compared to her Irish Championship total earlier in the season. In combined events, gains of that magnitude are exceptional and reflect both her athletic versatility and the focused work being done behind the scenes.
Balancing her commitments with Scoil Mhuire and Midleton AC, Elle continues to develop into one of Cork’s most exciting young prospects. Her strength across multiple disciplines, competitive mindset and rapid progression suggest there is much more to come.
A superb way to close out the year — and a performance that places her firmly on the national and international radar.
