June Athlete of the Month: Sophie O'Sullivan

Cork City Sports is delighted to announce Sophie O’Sullivan of Ballymore/Cobh AC as the Athlete of the Month for June in recognition of her outstanding performance at the NCAA Track & Field Championships held in Eugene, Oregon.

Competing for the University of Washington, Sophie delivered a remarkable performance in the 1500m final, surging to victory with a sensational 58.43-second final 400m split, crossing the line in 4:07.94. Her victory places her among a distinguished group of Irish athletes who have won an NCAA title, a rare and prestigious achievement on the world athletics stage.

Sophie’s win not only showcased her tactical brilliance and speed endurance but also reaffirmed her growing reputation as one of Ireland’s most exciting middle-distance prospects.

In her absence, the Athlete of the Month award was proudly accepted by her mother, Sonia O’Sullivan, herself a World Champion and Olympic silver medalist, continuing a remarkable family legacy in Irish athletics.
