Athlete Of The Month October ’25: Michael Harty

October Athlete of the Month: Michael Harty

Club: East Cork AC

Cork City Sports is proud to name Michael Harty (East Cork AC) as our Athlete of the Month for October, following a remarkable and historic victory at the Cork County Senior Men’s Cross Country Championships.

In one of the most prestigious events on the domestic athletics calendar, Michael delivered a performance rich in experience and composure. In a thrilling contest, he demonstrated exceptional tactical awareness, timing his move to perfection and pulling decisively clear of his challengers over the final 200 metres to claim the county title.

Beyond the quality of the race itself, the achievement carries profound historical significance. At 45 years of age, Michael becomes the oldest winner in the 102-year history of the Cork County Senior Men’s Cross Country Championship—an extraordinary milestone in an event steeped in tradition and past champions.

This victory is a powerful reminder that endurance, race craft, and competitive instinct continue to define championship success, regardless of age. Michael’s October triumph stands as an inspiration across generations of athletes and a standout moment in Cork athletics this season.

Congratulations to Michael Harty and East Cork AC on a truly historic achievement.
