September Athlete of the Month: Niamh Allen

Cork City Sports is delighted to announce Niamh Allen (Leevale AC) as our Athlete of the Month for September, following a series of outstanding performances that highlight her class and consistency across disciplines.

Niamh claimed a superb victory at the 44th edition of the Echo Women’s Mini-Marathon, producing a commanding display to win by over 40 seconds from her nearest rival. In a field of more than 4,000 participants, her performance stood out as one of the most emphatic wins in the event’s long and prestigious history.

That success followed an excellent track season earlier in the summer, where Niamh secured the National Senior 5,000m title, underlining her versatility and strength across both track and road racing. Winning at championship level on the track and then dominating one of Ireland’s largest road races speaks volumes about her preparation, endurance, and competitive instinct.

Niamh’s continued progression is also a reflection of the guidance and experience of her coach, Donie Walsh, former Olympian and one of Ireland’s most respected figures in distance running. Their partnership has clearly played a key role in translating elite training standards into championship-winning performances.

September’s achievements further cement Niamh’s status as one of Ireland’s leading distance runners, and Cork City Sports is proud to recognise her accomplishments with this award.
