It was indeed with a sense of great sadness and loss that we have learned of the death of one of the greatest Athletics Administrators in Cork or indeed Ireland over many years. Mary Meagher gave a lifetime to athletics at National, Provincial, County and local level, and with the great support of her husband John, son Damien and daughter Edel and Family seemed to enjoy every moment .Her contribution to her sport has been enormous and has been acknowledged by athletic aficionados throughout Ireland, and by the outpouring of sympathy and support expressed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Mary has certainly helped in no small way to the great successful achievements of our many Cork International Athletes over the years.
As a stalwart official of the Cork City Sports over so many years, Mary has seen the Sports grow to become one of the great International European Sports Meetings and has made a major contribution to its success.
While Mary has received many awards for her efforts she has always remained a most unassuming lady
Athletics in Cork has lost a truly dedicated and committed Official.
We will miss her a lot but the loss to John and Family will be great, as will that to her beloved and esteemed Blarney Inniscara A.C.
I have no doubt but Mary’s contribution will live long in the memories of all involved in Athletics at local level and beyond.
And so it is on behalf of myself, everyone, and all involved in the Cork City Sports that I express our sincerest and deepest sympathies to Mary’s husband John, son Damien daughter Edel, and Family
