Phil Healy To Take On World Indoor Champion At BAM Cork City Sports
Cork’s own Phil Healy from Bandon AC will be back at the BAM Cork City Sports again this year after setting a new Irish Record of 22.99 for the 200M at last years event to become the first Irish woman to break 23.0 seconds and receiving the plaudits from the crown for her amazing achievement.
Phil will compete in both 100m and 200m on August 14th at the CIT stadium. In the 100m Phil will take on 60m World Indoor Champion Barbara Pierre USA who won this event in 2017. Barbara Pierre is rounding nicely into form for the summer, having clocked 11.3 several times recently in the US and is one of the rare breed of athletes to have posted a sub 11 seconds for the 100m with a personal best of 10.85.
In the 200m Phil’s main opposition will be Crystal Emmanuel, Canada, who broke the 35 year old Canadian record at this meeting in 2017 with a world class time of 22.50. Emmanuel has already featured on the Diamond League circuit this year with a recent appearence in Stockholm and will also feature at the World Championships in Doha in September. Another strong contender for this title will be Beth Dobbin from the UK, reigning British 200m Champion, who had a breakthrough season last year when she ran a time of 22.59 in Birmingham.
With local support to cheer her on perhaps Phil Healy can lower the Irish Record once again at this years BAM Cork City Sports. It will be very interesting to watch this drama unfold on August 14th at the CIT stadium.
