Work Champion Robert Heffernan has set up a race waling academy in Cork. It is Heffernan’s intention to create a centre for excellence for race walking in Cork and to grow the sport of race walking across all clubs.
He invites members of all ages from all club to come along and join in to the Mardyke Arena track on Monday nights 7-8pm for the months of March, April & May.
This hour will be organised and coached by Robert Heffernan, a qualified coach, and Ireland’s leading race walkers including Brendan Boyce, an Olympian and World Championship athlete, who moved to Cork in 2012 and is training under myself, and Luke Hickey, a Cork athlete who finished in 13th position in European Juniors last year. His hope that is that the numbers will grow week by week and that race walking can become a commonly coached event in each club in the future.
Heffernan states “This is an initiative that is very close to my heart and I hope it will be a success. I ask that you encourage all athletes in your club to come join us Monday night and see what we have to offer.”
This is a really positive initiative and we wish Robert every success with the academy.
