Sophie O’Sullivan and Darragh McElhinney set for 3000m Races at Cork City Sports
Sophie O Sullivan who is Olympics bound will run the 3000M at the Cork City Sports. Sophie will contest the 1500m at the Paris Olympics but as there is no 1500m at the Cork City Sports she has opted for the 3000m instead. Her main opposition will be Verity Ockenden GBR who finished a close second at the British Championships last weekend and is in fine form. Another athlete certain to feature in this race is an up and coming 18 year old Kenyan Nancy Cherop who is a World Championships U20 Bronze medalist.
Darragh McElhinney is back to defend his 3000m title from 2022. He was a heartbreaking fourth place at the European Indoor Championships in 2023 and some great times indoors in 2024. He will have some serious competition from Nick Griggs IRL and Jude Thomas and Jackson Sharp from Australia. Ahmed Muhumed USA is also a threat having run a 3.57 mile and 13.08 for 5000m in recent times.
