Top Irish Athletes To Go Head To Head at BAM Cork City Sports
Three of the four fastest Irish athletes of all time to go head to head in the mens 200M on August 14th at the CIT stadium. Leon Reid, Stephen Gaffney and Marcus Lawler are separated by just over one tenth of a second on the Irish all-time list and only Paul Hession, who was a regular at the Cork City Sports over a decade ago, has run as fast.
Leon Reid, Bronze medallist at the Commonwealth Games in April 2018 representing Northern Ireland, holds the number one spot in the Irish all-time list. He finished in third place in Cork in 2017 against a world class field and has run on the Diamond League circuit already this year.
In recent weeks Marcus Lawler won the bronze medal at the World University Games in Naples. Marcus was on the podium at last years Cork City Sports after setting one of the fastest times ever run in this country and a new personal best of 20.40.
Stephen Gaffney recently ran into third spot on the all-time list by one hundredth of a second ahead of Marcus Lawler, after winning the 200M at Guldensporenmeeting, Kortrijk, Belgium last week with a time of 20.39.
It has the makings of a fascinating race between these three athletes at the top of their form
