Cork City Sports is delighted to confirm a truly international men’s shot put field for the 2026 meeting at MTU Athletics Stadium on Wednesday, July 8th.
Athletes from Great Britain, Ireland, New Zealand, Czech Republic, the United States, Germany, Sweden and Finland will contest what promises to be one of the most competitive field events ever assembled at the Cork meeting.
The eleven confirmed athletes boast personal best performances ranging from 18.70m to an outstanding 21.49m, underlining the exceptional quality of the field. Remarkably, six of the eleven competitors have surpassed the coveted 20-metre barrier during their careers, a benchmark that places them among the elite shot putters in international athletics.
Among the athletes confirmed are Piers Cameron (GBR), Eric Favors (IRL), Nick Palmer (NZL), Tadeas Prochazka (CZE), Christopher Licata (USA), Joe Licata (USA), Philipp Thomas (GER), Leo Zikovic (SWE), Miika Lantonen (FIN), John Kelly (IRL) and Wictor Petersson (SWE).
With such depth of talent and a field packed with international experience, spectators can expect a thrilling competition where every throw could prove decisive. The combination of powerful throwers, major championship experience and several athletes capable of exceeding 20 metres creates all the ingredients for a memorable contest in Cork.
The shot put competition is another example of Cork City Sports’ commitment to bringing world-class athletics to Cork and providing Irish athletes with the opportunity to compete against some of the best performers on the international circuit.
Fans attending the 72nd Cork City Sports at MTU Athletics Stadium can look forward to a spectacular evening of athletics, with the shot put set to be one of the highlights of the programme.
